Welcome

Welcome to Design Wire my personal blog about my life as a web designer,
musician and 21st Century Man.

In this blog I intend to chronicle my design and creative process, whether it be web design, web animation, music or photography. I would like to include resources for
aspiring, novice and pro designers. I also encourage comments and input on various design topics and design solutions.

My background as that of a musician. I started playing guitar in 1976 after like so many before me discovering pot, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. I studied guitar for 6 years with a well known local jazz guitarist and also spent countless hours picking
note for note solos from LPs. My early influences were George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and David Gilmour. I also studied Django Reinhardt and Micheal Schenker. Schenker really turned my thinking around with his searing lead sound, fantastic
melodic playing and feel. I studied many Gary Moore tunes (when he was metal and also when he got the blues) and I really still dig Brian Robertson from Thin Lizzy.

My first professional club gig was at the age of 16 while in a high
school rock band. Throughout the 80's and 90's I played in
two very successful local Rhode Island bands. One band in 7 years
clocked over 1400 live shows. I would also start teaching guitar
privately from 1986 and continue to do so. I've also been recording
myself and local artists and bands since 1983 when I got a 4 track
cassette recorder. I then graduated to 1/4" 8-track and then to 1"
8-track recording. I currently have a 24-track home studio in which I do occasional sessions and production work for outside sources and multimedia work.

I also was an avid artist with a passion for pastels and watercolors.
After getting burned out from playing 4-5 nights week I enrolled at the
New England Institute of Technology to study Multimedia Design, which I figured would still let me be creative. I graduated Dean's List at the age of 37 and started a job with a big design company in Newport that went belly up within a year. They still owe me pay!

I started freelancing out of necessity and started a business called Imagery Studio.
I figured it sounded better than calling it my own name. I function as designer, project manager and of course owner. My very understanding
wife helps keep the books straight and lends moral support.

When I'm not designing or playing music I enjoy spending time with my wife and a daughter. And when I can, I find time to run and operate live steam locomotives!

I hope you enjoy my Blog!

Best,
Vinny Ritol
